Loans and Financial Aid

UKZN offers very limited financial assistance to students whose combined family income is less than R130 000 a year (applicable for 2011). It is generally offered in the form of a loan which must be paid back, with interest, after leaving the University. A portion of the loan may be converted to a bursary if the student passes all modules in a degree. After the first year examinations small bursaries may be offered to financially needy and academically deserving students who achieve a pass avaregae 65% and greater.

If you require financial assistance make sure you indicate this on the CAO Application Form. The Faculty will consider your application and will mail financial aid application forms to you if you are awarded provisional financial aid by the Faculty. The information provided in these forms will be verified and the final award of financial assistance will be confirmed by the UKZN Student Funding Centre.

You will also need to budget for accommodation, books, stationery and equipment, transport, sports subscriptions and personal expenses. There are various payment options.
